Huntingdon House

The stay

Huntingdon House is a historic colonial-style boutique guest house located in the heart of the Satemwa Tea Estate in Thyolo, Malawi. Built in the mid-1930s, it was the original family home of Maclean Kay and now offers five unique, spacious suites with individual character. Guests can enjoy manicured gardens, a glimpse into the history of a working tea plantation, and a peaceful retreat surrounded by lush landscapes.

The five suites at Huntingdon House each carry the character of their former lives as family rooms, now fitted with claw-footed baths, separate showers and private patios that open onto the manicured gardens. Guests may spend quiet afternoons on the khonde, warmed by fireplaces in the evening, or wander the tea estate paths that still echo the working rhythm of the plantation.

Placed within the Satemwa Tea Estate, the house forms a measured pause on a tailor-made safari through Malawi, its five suites offering the comfort needed after days spent tracking game elsewhere in the country.
